Khyber Medical University is the first ever Public Sector University to announce the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physical Therapy. In our prestigious institute of Khyber Medical University IPM&R; The Dean of Allied Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Haider Darain took the initiative to start this program. The respected Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq and Director QEC, Dr. Asiya Bukhari played a vital role in starting the program.

The professional PhD degree in Physical Therapy, offered by Khyber Medical University, is the first of its kind to be offered by a Public sector university. KMU has designed it as working program that strives to make it accessible to physical therapists all over Pakistan. This program helps its scholars in enhancing their knowledge, conduct exceptional research, gain experience and to pursue a position to educate the next generation. It provides the students with a wealth of education skills, inter-professional communication, academic, and scholarly training opportunities to develop their areas of expertise. The main aim of Professional Ph.D. is not just to educate academically but holistically as well so that the scholars can become independent educators, administrators, or leaders within their disciplines.

The progress to stage of test conduction and interview was made possible under the scholarly leadership of Respected Dean of Allied Health Sciences: Sir Haider Darain. He completed the basic and major steps of achieving the goal; by designing a curriculum of Doctor of Philosophy PhD in Physical Therapy. Then he applied for NOC, worked on it and followed it regularly and made it successfully approved. This led to the final steps of goal achievement that was the conduction of entrance test for PhD, held on 29th December, 2021 and interviews and proposal defense, conducted on the same day. After successful proposal defense and interview, 8 candidates were selected. On 11th January, 2022, official PhD inauguration ceremony was conducted and selected PhD scholars were awarded the offer letters. The commencement of classes will be from first week of February.
